Posted on July 17, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Pass marks for Maharashtra SSC Board used to be 35%. This year they were brought down to 29%. In maths paper questions of 30 marks were out of syllabus and all students were given grace marks and passed in maths. It seems people responsible for decreasing the pass marks percentage to 29% and put out…

Presidential election

Posted on July 7, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Presidential election 2007 has turned nasty. Pratibha Patil’s record during emergency was dug up. Her comments about purdah created a controversy. Her role in the bankruptcy of a bank of which she was a founder and director, allegations of her brother being a murderer, her husband causing the suicide of a man, misuse of MPLADS…

Euthanasia is wrong

Posted on July 2, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

There is no right to die. Some people want right to die for those people who think they can not live a life of dignity. Some people want people who suffer for a long time to have the right to choose between life and death. Dignity is subjective. It cannot be a ground to end…

Posted on June 20, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Some say pati means husband and therefore woman president of India should be called rashtrapatni in Hindi. Little knowledge is dangerous. Pati has several meanings. It means hushand, owner or lord. There are words like bhupati, ashwapati, gajapati and prajapati. They do not mean husband of land, horses, elephants and people. Here the meaning is…

Pratibha Patil

Posted on June 15, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

When I wrote about Shivraj Patil I did not expect the situation to change in the next 24 hours. Much less did I expect Pratibha Patil to be the UPA candidate for President. Pratibha Patil was not in the picture. Left Front did not go along with UPA. They said no to Shivraj Patil and…

Shivraj Patil

Posted on June 13, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

It seems Shivraj Patil will soon be the candidate of UPA for Presidential Election. Mayawati will support UPA candidate. Left Front is likely to go along after expressing its reservations. Bal Thackeray has declared that Shiv Sena will support Shivraj Patil because he is a Marathi Manoos. Jayalalitha has declared that Third Front will not…

Abolish reservations

Posted on June 4, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

In a previous blog I had written “If people in favour of reservations come to streets, people opposed to reservations can also come to streets.” The clash between Gujjars and Meenas testifes this. Gujjars are OBCs in Rajasthan. They want to be included in STs. Meenas do not want to Gujjars to be included in…

Candidate for President

Posted on May 24, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

I am a candidate to become the President of India for which soon there will be election. The new President is to take over on 25/7/2007. I ask political parties and independent MPs and MLAs who can vote in the election to support me. Nominated MPs and MLAs cannot vote in the election of the President.

Congress in is favour of common man (aam admi). Their slogan is “Congress ka hath aam admi ke sath” (The hand of Congress is with common man). Congress leads UPA. I am a common man. So Congress led UPA should support me. Left Front generally goes along with UPA. So Left Front should support me. Left has three criteria for the candidate like he should be a political person and should have secular credentials. I do not remember the third criterion. Left can overlook its criteria as I they may not consider me a political person. But once I am elected Left will find me political.

Uttar Pradesh Elections

Posted on May 15, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Uttar Pradesh Elections proved psephologists wrong. All predicted hung assembly. BSP got clear majority and did not need any support from any party or independents. SP, BJP and Congress lost seats. Congress expected to do better. Rahul Gandhi’s road shows did not help. His utterances regarding demolition of Babri Mosque, Independence and breaking of Pakistan…
