Abolish reservations

Posted on June 4, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

In a previous blog I had written “If people in favour of reservations come to streets, people opposed to reservations can also come to streets.” The clash between Gujjars and Meenas testifes this. Gujjars are OBCs in Rajasthan. They want to be included in STs. Meenas do not want to Gujjars to be included in…

Cousins

Posted on May 24, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Many times I come across the wrong usage “cousin brother” or “cousin sister”. There are cousins and not “cousin brother” or “cousin sister”. It is too bad when such usage appears on newspapers or TV channels. Those who have same grandparents but different parents are first cousins. Those who have same great grandparents but different…

Candidate for President

Posted on May 24, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

I am a candidate to become the President of India for which soon there will be election. The new President is to take over on 25/7/2007. I ask political parties and independent MPs and MLAs who can vote in the election to support me. Nominated MPs and MLAs cannot vote in the election of the President.

Congress in is favour of common man (aam admi). Their slogan is “Congress ka hath aam admi ke sath” (The hand of Congress is with common man). Congress leads UPA. I am a common man. So Congress led UPA should support me. Left Front generally goes along with UPA. So Left Front should support me. Left has three criteria for the candidate like he should be a political person and should have secular credentials. I do not remember the third criterion. Left can overlook its criteria as I they may not consider me a political person. But once I am elected Left will find me political.

Uttar Pradesh Elections proved psephologists wrong. All predicted hung assembly. BSP got clear majority and did not need any support from any party or independents. SP, BJP and Congress lost seats. Congress expected to do better. Rahul Gandhi’s road shows did not help. His utterances regarding demolition of Babri Mosque, Independence and breaking of Pakistan…

Justice System

Posted on May 10, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

One reason why justice system in India is overburdened is condonation of delays in filing appeals. When a judgment is delivered time of forty days or so is given to appeal against the judgment. However many people do not file appeals within the stipulated time and approach courts later. Courts condone delays upto 100 days…

Reservations

Posted on April 25, 2007 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Right is right even though nobody is right. Wrong is wrong even though everybody is wrong.

If Parliament passes a law that is unjust it does not become right.

In Delhi and many other cities students had opposed reservations. It is likely that in future political parties opposed to reservations will come up.

Women are equal to men. Legal position regarding women differs from country to country.

If the law discriminates against women it is for women to fight against such law.

Every person is known by name. Gender Justice has to begin with name. A married man does not change his name. In many societies women change their names and/or surnames after marriage. Women must retain their maiden names after marriage.
