When there is a crime there is a victim. Survivor means an attempted crime. The criminal did not succeed in his crime. When there is an assassination attempt on a person and he or she dies we do not call him or her survivor. Similarly, it should be rape victims. They should not be referred to as survivors.
On 30/9/2021 there was a report on a news site about rape of an IAF officer. The victim was referred to as rape survivor. I posted a comment: Wrong to call rape victim rape survivor because survivor means attempted crime. Soon I got a message.

There are many activists who are wolves in sheep’s clothing. They pretend to be on the side of rape victims but are against them. They do not want rapists to be punished. They do not want death penalty for rape even in a case of rape and murder. They do not want castration for rape. They do not want life imprisonment for rape. If you say 20 years imprisonment for rape, they say 20 years is too much. When rape is discussed they want to divert attention by talking about patriarchy, society, mindset and so on. The matter is simple. Rape is a crime. Rapist must be punished. In Delhi Gang Rape Case one activist wanted parents of the victim to forgive rapists. Parents refused. Rapists were hanged after many delays.
Not mentioning the name of the victim erases her identity. In case of living victim it may be necessary to protect her but in case of dead victim there is no reason to hide her name and erase her identity.
Armed Forces are for defence of the country and not for equal representation. Many women in India want to join military. Biological differences between men and women should not be ignored. In Afghanistan some years back a British woman soldier had labour pains at the time of combat. It was reported she was eight months pregnant and she did not know it. USA has many cases of sex crimes against women in military. We should not have fighter pilots. We should use drones and missiles.
That was an absurd response to your comment. It’s still a man’s world where rules and truths are man’s Creation. Women continue to be victims of that Creation. There are exceptions, of course.
