TMC symbol is known as flower and grass though there are two flowers in the symbol. TMC leader Mamata Banerjee wants to be PM. For that she wants to win outside West Bengal. There are attempts to get Congress and other members join TMC. I call it Operation Flower And Grass.
Some months back Sushmita Dev quit Congress. That was not a surprise. She joined TMC. That was a surprise. Politicians who quit Congress in recent years had joined BJP.
About a month and half later Luizinho Faleiro quit Congress and joined TMC. He resigned as Navelim MLA on 27/9/2021. He was Goa CM in 1998-99. The surprise did not last long. Luizinho Faleiro said Prashant Kishor had approached him. TMC wants to contest all 40 seats in Goa next year.
Prashant Kishor has switched sides over the years. In 2014 he was with BJP. Then with JD(U). In recent years he was with Congress. Now he is with TMC. He heads Indian Political Action Committee. The aim is to defeat BJP in 2024 Lok Sabha election. He does not see Congress as capable of defeating BJP.
There are many regional parties like ADMK, BJD, BSP, DMK, RJD, SAD, SP, TDP, TRS, YSRCP and so on. Perhaps TMC will try to get some members of these parties to switch sides. TMC wants Goa Forward Party led by Vijay Sardesai to join it. GFP members are not enthusiastic about merger but alliance is possible.
Leaders like KCR and Mayawati have their political ambitions and are unlikely to support Mayawati become PM. TMC and Left Front are against each other. However strange things have happened in the past. In 1996 around a dozen parties came together and formed United Front. They had outside support of Congress. The aim was to keep BJP out of power. A lot has changed after that. BJP had majority of its own in 2014 and 2019 elections. Presence of allies in government was symbolic.
There are state elections in coming years. TMC’s success or failure in them will indicate Mamata Banerjee’s future.
