There was a raid on perfume trader Piyush Jain at the end of December 2021. Directorate General of GST Intelligence raided his premises in Kanpur and Kannauj. DGCI seized 196 crore rupees in cash, 23 kg gold and sandalwood oil worth 6 crore rupees and arrested Piyush Jain on 26/12/2021. He was accused of evasion of 31.50 crore rupees GST over four years.
BJP and SP pointed fingers at each other both claiming he belonged to the other party. After some days there were reports that the raid was due to mistaken identity. SP leader Akhilesh Yadav said the raid was on wrong Jain. Then came raid on perfume trader SP MLC Pushparaj Jain. He had made Samajwadi ittra. Income Tax Department raided his premises in Surat, Kanpur, Kannauj, Mumbai and NCR. ITD arrested Pushparaj Jain on 3/1/2022.
Akhilesh Yadav said BJP is not only the enemy of development but also of minorities. These people are being raided as the people of Jain community are in minority. These people i.e., BJP, do not want Jains to prosper. Money seized from Piyush Jain belonged to BJP.
Elections are due in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, Uttarakhand and UP. Election Commission has not announced election schedule but election rallies are taking place. It is time for accusations and promises. Akhilesh Yadav hopes to get Jain votes by turning them against BJP. Sometimes few votes can make difference between victory and defeat. Better for SP if Jain businessmen switch to it from BJP. CBI, DGGI, ED and ITD raids at this time will be viewed as targeting of opposition.
Some want elections postponed due to Corona cases. Now Omicron variant is in news. It is said to be less dangerous than Delta. India now has third wave. Some countries had more waves than that. Terms of Legislative Assemblies of Goa, Manipur, Punjab, and Uttarakhand will expire in March and term of UP Legislative Assembly will expire on 14 May. Elections can be held without rallies. Otherwise cabinets can function for six months and after that it has to be President’s Rule.
