Nira Radia Tapes

Posted on November 30, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

On 23/11/2010 I read “Beware the single brush” by Pratap Bhanu Mehta in The Indian Express. The article had a sentence “Tapes of conversations between journalists and various lobbyists have been put online and some publications have carried stories on these conversations.” I did not know who were the journalists or lobbyists. On 26/11/2010 at…

Posted on November 30, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Americans are unable to win Afghan War. They can not win Afghan War. It is because American money is financing America’s enemies. America gives money to Pakistan to fight Taliban. Pakistan finances Afghan Taliban who fight Americans. Sometimes Pakistanis directly attack Americans. During one such attack on a helicopter Americans fired back. Three Pakistani soldiers…

Three recent events in India have significance. First was Colors challenging I&B Ministry and going to court. I&B Ministry had asked Imagine and Colours to shift their 9.00 p.m. programmes to a time slot between 11.00 p.m. and 5.00 a.m. Imagine obliged. Colors went to court. It got a stay order. Second was Jaganmohan Reddy’s…

Punish MPs

Posted on November 25, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

MPs have not allowed Parliament to function since 9/11/2010. A. Raja, telecom minister, resigned during the session. Opposition MPs wanted JPC. Congress MPs opposed JPC. Everyday there were disruptions and adjournments. Parliament is a forum for debate and discussion with dignity and decorum. Disruption is unjustified. MPs must be punished for non-functioning of Parliament. MPs…

Posted on November 18, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

In India corruption has reached stratospheric levels. Thousands of crores of rupees are siphoned off. Criminals get away. An ordinary citizen can not do much in his fight against corruption. RTI activists are killed. There is one thing an ordinary citizen can do and that is to curse the corrupt and criminals. Cursed be every…

Sunil Gavaskar and BCCI

Posted on November 10, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Sunil Gavaskar claims BCCI owes him money. BCCI disputes the claim. Sunil Gavaskar says he has not demanded dues from BCCI but has sent gentle reminders. If someone says I will pay you X and I say no and he says I will pay you X + Y and I say yes it is not a demand. The payment regards to membership of IPL Governing Council. How much was X and how much was Y? It seems X was one crore rupees per year and Y was four crore rupees per year. X was in writing. Y was promised orally by Sharad Pawar, then BCCI president. How to deliver Y was not decided because of logistics.

M. A. K. Pataudi and Ravi Shastri were also members of IPL Governing Council. When BCCI decided not to make payments to cricketer members M. A. K. Pataudi and Sunil Gavaskar chose to quit and Ravi Shastri chose to continue. How much M. A. K. Pataudi and Ravi Shastri were paid?

Murder of English

Posted on November 10, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

Producers of Hindi films and TV serials murder English. They have English titles to Hindi films and TV serials and add letters to English words. One serial has added g to Big. One film has added y to Replay. One film misspelt love stories as luv storys.
Producers consult numerologists. Numerologists suggest adding letters to words. Many actors and actresses consult numerologists and add letters to their names or surnames. One actor deleted a letter from his surname.

India and Security Council

Posted on November 10, 2010 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

India wants permanent membership of UN Security Council. Some argue the Security Council reflects the reality of 1945 and it should reflect the reality of 2010. In 1971 Taiwan (Republic of China) was expelled from UN and its seat went to China (People’s Republic of China). In 1991 USSR disintegrated and its seat went to Russia. So the UN Security Council reflects the reality of 1991. In 1945 India was a colony. In 1991 Indian economy was in bad shape. Reality of 2010 means France and UK should not be members of Security Council but nobody is saying that. In 2003 France opposed invasion of Iraq and some Americans wanted France’s seat to go to India.

In 2010 India is a major contender for permanent membership of UN Security Council. Other major contenders are Germany, Japan and Brazil. France, Russia and UK support India. USA says the issue is complicated. China claims Arunachal Pradesh and some other parts of India as its territory.
