Akhilesh Yadav and name change

Akhilesh Yadav has done what no Indian politician has done. He changed the names that were changed by Mayawati and reverted to former names. Mayawati had changed the names of Amethi, Hathras, Kanpur Dehat, Shamli, Sambhal, Kashganj, Hapur and King George Medical University to Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Nagar, Mahamaya Nagar, Jyotiba Phule Nagar, Ramabai Nagar, Prabudhanagar, Bheemnagar, Kanshiram Nagar, Panchasheelnagar and Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Medical University. Now they are once again Amethi, Hathras, Kanpur Dehat, Shamli, Sambhal, Kashganj, Hapur and King George Medical University.

This act opens possibilities of reverting to former names all over the country. Alexander Dock, Connaught Place, Connaught Circus, Rajasthan Canal, Bangalore, Baroda, Bombay, Calicut, Calcutta, Madras, Poona, Trivandrum, Victoria Terminus and other names can make a comeback and replace the existing official names. Airports, buildings, roads can revert to former names. Lamington Road, Peddar Road, Warden Road can be official names. May be many hospitals and parks will revert to former names.

In English, English words may replace Hindi words. Rashtrapati Bhavan may become Presidential Palace. Prasar Bharati may become Broadcasting Corporation of India. Western Express may replace Pashchim Express.

Fake gold medals

Olympics is under way. Gold, silver, bronze medals are given to athletes who come first, second, third. However gold medals are fake. They have only 6 grammes gold which is 1.34%. The gold medals have 92.5% silver. The rest is copper or something else.

The last time genuine gold medals were awarded was in 1912. In 1984 I had read that genuine gold medals will be awarded in Los Angeles Olympics but it seems that was not the case. Billions of dollars or euros or pounds or some other currencies are spent in hosting Olympics but in giving gold medals enough money is not spent and fake medals are given.

Gold medals should be genuine or should not be given at all. Silver, copper and nickel medals can be given to athletes who come first, second and third. Olympic medals are considered the ultimate in many sports. It is not proper that fake medals are given.

Hosting of Olympics is a costly affair. There is not much benefit for host countries. Greece hosted Olympics in 2004 and went bankrupt in 2010. The cost can be brought down. Less medals can be given. The events in Olympics can be reduced. Team events like football, hockey, basketball and volleyball can be done away with. In games like badminton and tennis there should be only singles, not doubles and mixed doubles. Events like boxing, judo and karate in which competitors are hurt or knocked down should not be part of Olympics.

Indian men and sex crimes

There are people who talk as if India was free from sex crimes and Indian men have suddenly taken to sex crimes. A few Indian men commit sex crimes and these people speak as if all Indian men are sex criminals.

Sex crimes have taken place since the beginning of history all over the world. Men in other countries commit sex crimes. In recent years due to TV channels there is more reporting of sex crimes.

Some say women should be careful about their dress. Eve teasers tease a woman whatever is her dress. Some say women should follow Indian dress code. What they mean is Pakistani dress code. Their knowledge of Indian culture is superficial. Ignorance is bliss.

Some criminals commit crimes because they want to appear to TV. Beating women in a pub and molesting a woman outside a pub is a sure way of publicity, more so when TV channels are informed in advance.

Some say men feel threatened because women work outside, they dress differently than before, and they go to pubs, so they commit sex crimes. Who are these men? Abstract theories are of no use.

Many commit crimes because they think they can get away with crimes. Crimes are less when they are fear of punishment.

When there is demand for severe punishment some say they want certainty of punishment than severity as if certainty and severity are mutually exclusive. Punishment should be certain and severe proportionate to the crime. What is the use of certainty if a woman judge finds a man guilty of rape and sentences him to imprisonment till the rising of the court?
