After World War II there were two groups of countries headed by USA and USSR.
There were military alliances.
USA was part of NATO, SEATO, CENTO & ANZUS.
USSR was part of Warsaw Pact.
SEATO & CENTO came to an end after some years.
ANZUS lost its relevance.
The cold war between the two groups went on till Mikhail Gorbachev put an end to it.
Warsaw Pact was disbanded.
West Germany and East Germany were allowed to unite.
USA did not disband NATO.
USSR disintegrated.
Russia inherited the rights of USSR.
USA started to dominate the world with or without the sanction of UN.
NATO was expanded.
Russia was not happy about it but could do nothing and USA did not care.
Serbia was bombed by NATO for 77 days and had to allow peace keepers in Kosovo.
Russia could not do much.
Russia’s economy boomed.
Under Vladimir Putin as President it began to assert itself.
After Dmintry Medvedev became President Vladimir Putin became Prime Minister.
When Kosovo declared independence USA and some countries recognized it.
Russia was opposed to Kosovo’s independence.
When there was trouble in South Ossetia Russia attacked Georgia.
Poland allowed USA to keep missiles in its territory.
Cease Fire agreement between Russia and Georgia lasted a few days.
Russia recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries.
Cold War has returned.
We can expect many declarations of independence and recognitions all over the world.
Basque, Corsica, Darfur, Kurdistan and some other regions may do so soon.
India has trouble in Kashmir.
Pakistan has trouble in Baluchistan.
Bangladesh has trouble in Chittagong Hill Tracts.
The map of the world underwent many changes after World War I and World War II.
It may happen again.
