On 15/5/2022 India won Thomas Cup. First time India had entered the final and first time it won.
When the tournament began not many expected India to do well in Thomas Cup. India was in Group C. On 8/5/2022 India defeated Germany 5-0. On 9/5/2022 India defeated Canada 5-0. On 11/5/2022 India lost to Taiwan (Chinese Taipei) 2-3. Kidambi Srikanth and H. S. Prannoy won their singles matches. Others lost their singles or doubles matches. After winning first two matches India had qualified for quarter-final.
On 12/5/2022 India defeated Malaysia 3-2 in quarter-final. Kidambi Srikanth and H. S. Prannoy won their singles matches. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won their doubles match. India reached semi-final after 1979. Bronze medal was assured.
On 13/5/2022 India defeated Denmark 3-2 in semi-final. Kidambi Srikanth and H. S. Prannoy won their singles matches. Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty won their doubles match. India reached final for the first time. Silver medal was assured.
On 14/5/2022 India faced Indonesia in the final. They had won Thomas Cup 14 times. Most Indians hoped India could win 3-2.
India did better than that. Lakshya Sen who had lost singles matches against Taiwan, Malaysia and Denmark won this time. He defeated Anthony Sinisuka Ginting 8-21, 21-17, 21-16. Remarkable comeback after losing first game. India were up 1-0.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty faced Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Mohammad Ahsan in first doubles. They lost the first game 18-21. In the second game they saved four match points and won 23-21. They won third game 21-19. India were up 2-0.
Kidambi Srikant faced Jonatan Christie in second singles match. He defeated him in straight games 21-15, 23-21. India defeated Indonesia 3-0 and won Thomas Cup and gold medal.

Uber Cup matches were also held. In group matches Indian women defeated Canada 4-1, USA4-1 and lost to South Korea 0-5. In quarter-final they lost to Thailand 0-3.
