Anil Deshmukh Resigns

Posted on April 6, 2021 by Vincent Augustine D'Souza

On 5/4/2021 Anil Deshmukh resigned as Home Minister of Maharashtra after Bombay High Court ordered CBI inquiry against him.  Former Police Commissioner of Bombay Param Bir Singh in his letter to Uddhav Thackeray had alleged Anil Deshmukh had asked Sachin Waze and Sanjay Patil to collect Rs.2-3 lakh rupees each from 1,750 bars, restaurants and other establishments and his statements regarding his transfer from Police Commissioner to Commandant General of Home Guards were untruthful.

After that Param Bir Singh had gone to Supreme Court which directed him to Bombay High Court which asked him why he did not file FIR against Anil Deshmukh.  Bombay High Court had petitions filed by others against Anil Deshmukh and Param Bir Singh.  The order for CBI inquiry was based on petition by Jaishri Patil.

It is coalition government in Maharashtra and Anil Deshmukh belonged to NCP.  Sharad Pawar did not want to drop Anil Deshmukh.  Many in Shiv Sena and Congress were not happy about that.  Nitin Raut called Anil Deshmukh Accidental Home Minister.   Sharad Pawar is said to have secretly met Amit Shah in Ahmedabad on 26/3/2021.    Sharad Pawar was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital on 30/3/2021 and discharged on 3/4/2021.

NIA probe against Sachin Waze proceeds with new developments.  It recovered laptops and number plates from Mithi river.  Vijay Nade from Aurangabad claimed one number plate belonged to him.  His car was stolen last November which was reported to police.  Documents seized from a Girgaum club show monthly payments to police and other government officials and their departments.  A woman was detained.  She is suspected to have helped Sachin Waze in money laundering.  A bike used by Sachin Waze was registered in her name.

Corona cases have gone up in Maharashtra.  There is night curfew from 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. and weekend lockdown from Friday 8 p.m. to Monday 7 a.m.  Bars and Restaurants are ordered to be closed except for home delivery.  It means no collection of Rs.2-3 lakh rupees each.  There are various restrictions on other places.  These restrictions do not make sense because in trains in each compartment more than fifty people travel.
