On 16/8/2022 Chinese ship Yuan Wang 5 docked at Hambantota, Ceylon (Sri Lanka). China says it is a research ship. India says it is a spy ship. India had opposed its arrival there. It was to arrive there on 11/8/2022. Due to India’s opposition Ceylon did not allow it to come. China was not happy. It was determined to send the ship. Ceylon allowed its arrival.
During these days India allowed an American navy ship Charles Drew to dock at an Indian port, Madras, ostensibly for repair work. There was talk of India showing who is the boss of Indian Ocean. That illusion was soon shattered.
Ceylon recently had a revolution followed by overthrow of the government. It was similar to revolutions in Eastern Europe organised by CIA. Ceylon did not have money to pay for imports. India stepped in and helped people of Ceylon. It extended 3.8 billion dollars support to Ceylon. On 15/8/2022 it gifted Dornier 228 plane. It seems all this is useless. India should ask Ceylon to join it and become a state. Narendra Modi talked against freebies to Indians. He should stop freebies to foreigners.
China got Hambantota on 99-year lease in 2017. It will use it. There is not much India can do. China and USA are rivals. USA wants to pick up a fight with China. Taiwan is chosen to challenge China. China missed an opportunity to show its power when Nancy Pelosi visited Taiwan. Military exercises around Taiwan are of no use. They do not intimidate USA. On 14/8/2022 a Congressional delegation led by Edward John Markey visited Taiwan.
India has disputes with China. India in recent years has not talked about One China Policy. India should ask China to return its territory. Otherwise, there is option of recognising Taiwan as an independent country. If China breaks diplomatic and trade relations with India it has more to lose. India has to fight alone. Should not rely on USA. Seventh Fleet had violated Indian territorial waters and had boasted and gloated about it.
