Return of Cold War

After World War II there were two groups of countries headed by USA and USSR.

There were military alliances.

USSR was part of Warsaw Pact.

SEATO & CENTO came to an end after some years.

ANZUS lost its relevance.

The cold war between the two groups went on till Mikhail Gorbachev put an end to it.

Warsaw Pact was disbanded.

West Germany and East Germany were allowed to unite.

USA did not disband NATO.

USSR disintegrated.

Russia inherited the rights of USSR.

USA started to dominate the world with or without the sanction of UN.

NATO was expanded.

Russia was not happy about it but could do nothing and USA did not care.

Serbia was bombed by NATO for 77 days and had to allow peace keepers in Kosovo.

Russia could not do much.

Russia’s economy boomed.

Under Vladimir Putin as President it began to assert itself.

After Dmintry Medvedev became President Vladimir Putin became Prime Minister.

When Kosovo declared independence USA and some countries recognized it.

Russia was opposed to Kosovo’s independence.

When there was trouble in South Ossetia Russia attacked Georgia.

Poland allowed USA to keep missiles in its territory.

Cease Fire agreement between Russia and Georgia lasted a few days.

Russia recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent countries.

Cold War has returned.

We can expect many declarations of independence and recognitions all over the world.

Basque, Corsica, Darfur, Kurdistan and some other regions may do so soon.

India has trouble in Kashmir.

Pakistan has trouble in Baluchistan.

Bangladesh has trouble in Chittagong Hill Tracts.

The map of the world underwent many changes after World War I and World War II.

It may happen again.

Inflation control

Inflation in India has reached 12.63%.

Not much is done to bring down inflation.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh must take some steps to bring down inflation.

1) He must sack P. Chidambaram.  Appoint someone who is not a minister as Finance Minister and instruct him suitably.

2) He must instruct RBI Governor to sell dollars till the value of dollar is brought down to Rs.39/-.  After that it should not be allowed to go up.  It may come down.

3) Price of oil has to come down.

It is around $111.

Prices of petrol, diesel and gas must be brought down.

If Manmohan Singh does these three things he can expect to address the nation on Independence Day next year from Red Fort.

Otherwise he may continue as MP as he is a Rajya Sabha Member but not PM.

Congratulations Abhinav Bindra

On 11/8/2008 Abhinav Bindra won gold medal in 10m air rifle shooting in Beijing Olympics.

He became the first Indian to win a gold medal in an individual event in Olympics.

India had won gold medal in hockey eight times.

K. Jadhav, Leander Paes and Karnam Malleswari had won bronze medals.

Rajyavardhan Singh had won silver medal.

India has a gold medal in Olympics after 28 years.

In 1984, 1988 and 1992 we did not have any Olympic medal.

In 1996 and 2000 we had one bronze medal each and in 2004 silver medal.

I was hoping for at least one bronze medal in Beijing Olympics.

We have got one gold medal.

Air rifle shooting is an expensive sport.

Not many people in India can afford it.

Air rifles are imported from Germany and Italy.

Ammunition is costly.

Chances of many people taking to air rifle shooting are remote.

We do not know what the future holds for India but a beginning has been made.

Congratulations Abhinav Bindra.

By coincidence India lost the Colombo Test and the series in Sri Lanka on 11/8/2008.

There was hope that Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman may repeat their feat against Australia at Eden Gardens in 2001 but that turned into disappointment.
